Frank’s Turn

Oct 2, 2011

FRISCO, TX – Behind two goals and three assists, Frank DeAugustine became the second Bobcat in as many weeks to be named to the Combat Hockey NAHL Three Stars honor roll, pulling down third star of the week for October 3, 2011.

“We’re playing well offensively because everyone is working hard,” said DeAugustine, who ranks fourth on the Cats with nine points (5 G, 4 A), “and when you work hard, good things happen. Our line [with Dan Zawacki and Tyler Richter] has a nice chemistry and whether it’s even strength or power play, things seem to be working out well.

“Without everyone playing their best, individual awards like this don’t mean much and don’t really happen.”

DeAugustine had an even strength and power play strike to go with two assists in Friday’s 7-2 drubbing of Aberdeen and followed it up with an assist on Richter’s game-opening score in Saturday’s 4-3 nail-biter at Minot as the Bobcats grew their Central Division lead to six points coming out of the road weekend.

The native of Burgettstown, Penn., was the Cats’ fourth-leading scorer in 2010-11 and head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie likes the early returns from the third-year player.

“Frank is picking up right where he left off from last year and playing very well on special teams,” confirmed Sedevie. “Aberdeen and Minot are very tough places to play and Frank handled it with veteran leadership and presence.”

DeAugustine was one of three Bobcats with five-point weekends, as both Shane Omdahl and Castan Sommer joined DeAugustine with two goals and three assists.

“Our balance and depth will be key moving forward,” added Sedevie, “because if an opponent tries to take away Frankie’s line, you’ve got three more lines behind it—including one with Omdahl, Sommer and [Patrick] Moore—to step right up and produce.”

The high-flying Cats take their show north of the border for their first trip to Canada since 2004 with a two-game series in British Columbia against the Dawson Creek Rage, starting with a 9:00 PM puck drop Friday from the Encana Events Center.

Friday’s interdivision matchup will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide on the official internet television partner of the NAHL, FASTHockey, at http://nahl.fasthockey.com. Pregame coverage gets under way at 8:30.
