Faragher Nets League Goalie Honors

Oct 25, 2009

FRISCO, TX – Bismarck Bobcats goaltender Ryan Faragher has been named the NAHL / GDI Goaltender of the Week for the week of October 26th following a 2-0-0 weekend in net for the Bobcats as the defending Central Division champs swept the Alexandria Blizzard Friday and Saturday.

“It’s a pretty special honor to be Goalie of the Week,” said Faragher, “there are a lot of great goalies in this league and to get this award means a lot to me.”

The Fort Frances, Ont., native shut down 45 of 47 Blizzard attempts and turned in a shutout performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win at the Runestone Center in Alexandria.

The shutout was Faragher’s second of the season, tying him for second league-wide in that category.

The Bobcat netminder was quick to credit the defensive effort in front of him as part of his strong weekend.

“I said it all weekend, but the ‘D’ was great both nights,” said Faragher. “Everyone forced the action to the outside, gave me a good look at the first shot and when there were rebounds they cleared them out of there quickly.”

The two wins lifted Faragher’s record to 4-3-2 on the season after a 0-2-1 start to the year. He also registered an assist on Sam Rendle’s power play goal Friday.

“Ryan has steadily improved his game since day one of camp,” said Bobcats head coach Byron Pool, “so it\’s nice to see him be rewarded with a couple of wins. He\’s really put in the work needed to take his game to the next level.

“He gives us a chance to win every night and, as a coaching staff and a teammate, that is all you can ask.”

It is the second time Faragher has been honored by the league; he was honorable mention for the Goaltender of the Week award on October 12th.

Joining Faragher on the league’s weeklyhonor roll was Bobcat forward Dominic Panetta, whose goal and two assists in Friday’s 4-2 win earned him honorable mention for the Sherwood NAHL Central Division Player of the Week award.

The Bobcats return home for a two-game series with the Albert Lea Thunder at the VFW Sports Center this weekend, starting with a 7:15 PM tilt on Friday.

The team is offering “Bobcat Buck Beers” between 6:15 and 7:15 and Cloverdale Meats will be giving out free samples of Russell’s Reserve Ribs as part of a pre-game celebration Friday.

The game will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270, KLXX-AM, and worldwide at BismarckBobcats.com via B2 Networks. The pre-game show starts at 6:45 PM.
