BISMARCK, ND – Fresh off two dramatic victories over the teams at the top the Central Division standings, the Bismarck Bobcats return home Wednesday for a holiday throwdown with the rival Aberdeen Wings at the VFW Sports Center.
Through four meetings, the Bobcats and Wings have each won two games—with the home team taking the decision in each contest.
“When you talk about buildings like ‘The VFW’ and Odde Ice Center, of course home ice advantage is huge, but it also shows our need for consistency,” explained Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, whose team—prior to October 21 and 22—had not lost in regulation at Odde Ice Center since March 2014.
“I don’t think any of our games against Aberdeen have had a consistent work ethic from one to the next, and that’s a big concept for our team now that we’re one-third of the way through the season.”
Like the Bobcats, Aberdeen overcame a 3-0 deficit over halfway through the game to force overtime on Saturday; unlike the Cats, the Wings fell 4-3 to Minot on the evening.
Second-year center Carter Roo continues to lead the Wings in scoring on five goals and 13 assists in 21 appearances. The last time the Bobcats saw Aberdeen, forwards Joey Strada and Shawn Knowlton each scored twice in winning efforts for the Wings.
Norwegian winger Tobias Fladeby has used a seven-game point streak (5g, 7a) to surge into the Bobcats’ team lead in points at 26—tied for second-most league-wide—on 11 goals and 15 assists.
Goalie Will Ulrich, recently committed to Division I Air Force, is 3-1-0 in his last four starts to bounce back from an 0-2-1 stretch in late October and early November and improve his GAA to 3.14 while raising his SV% to .914—third-best in the Central.
