Alexander’s Big Weekend Leads to League Honors

PLYMOUTH, MI – Scoring or assisting on half of his team’s goals on the weekend to power the Bismarck Bobcats to a weekend sweep of the Aberdeen Wings, second-year forward Nick Alexander earned Central Division Star of the Week honors Monday.

The 18-year-old alternate captain from Dallas, Tex., picked up the game-winner in Friday’s 4-2 victory before adding a breakaway goal and two helpers in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout triumph.

“Nick has been a great veteran leader this year,” hailed Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, who drafted Alexander in the fourth round of the 2015 NAHL Entry Draft. “We need those types of guys at this time of year, so for him to step up this past weekend and get us two big wins at a crucial point in the season was a big boost to the team.”

Alexander averaged a point per game in February as the Cats put up a 4-3-1 record over the course of the month.

With Alexander’s Star nod, he joins Jordan Fralich, Tobias Fladeby, Will Ulrich, Camden Haugenoe and Mitch Walinski on the Bobcats’ weekly award winner roll for 2016-17.

Bobcats co-captain Jared Resseguie earned honorable mention for the hardware with a four-point weekend of his own, netting a shorthanded goal and chipping in three assists.

Top Prospects Update: Resseguie and Jiei Halliday opened play at the 2017 Top Prospects Tournament in Plymouth, Mich., Monday to help Team Central to a 4-2 win over Team Midwest.

Halliday had a plus-2 rating on the day, making his biggest play late in the second period to diffuse a 3-on-1 rush for the Midwest. Resseguie did not make it onto the score sheet, but was a key factor on the Central penalty kill while throwing some big hits at both ends of the ice.

The Bobcats will wrap up a four-game home stand with a pair of clashes against the archrival Minot Minotauros Friday and Saturday at the VFW Sports Center to determine the winner of the inaugural Subway ND Cup.
