Barry, Resseguie Earn Central Division Year-End Honors
FRISCO, TX – Two Bismarck Bobcats picked up annual Central Division hardware Tuesday as center Matt Barry was named to the All-Central Division Team while co-captain Jared Resseguie earned the division’s Academic Achievement Award.
Barry, named to the league’s All-Rookie Team on Monday, led the Bobcats with 59 points on 23 goals and 36 assists—finishing one point off the Central’s top scoring mark for 2016-17.
“Matt is a guy that we came to rely on more and more as the season went on,” noted Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “As a first-year guy, it was great to see him grow from a role player to the key contributor that he was by the end of the year. That he was named a top forward in such a talented Central Division speaks to how hard he worked to develop as a player.”
It marks the ninth straight season—dating back to 2008-09—that the Bobcats have had at least one entry on the All-Central Division Team.
Serving as one of the Bobcats’ two captains as an 18-year-old, Resseguie carried a 4.0 GPA while scoring a 28 on the ACT exam.
“Balancing junior hockey and schoolwork is never easy, so the fact that Jared was both a leader of our team and a student with top grades shows you how much character he has as a young man,” added Sedevie.
Resseguie’s honor marks the Cats’ first divisional Academic Achievement winner; John Wickman won the league’s Academic Achievement award in 2009.
Next up in a busy offseason for the Bobcats is the first of the team’s two Open Pre-Draft Camps at Hasse Arena in Lakeville, Minn., May 19-21. Sign-ups are open now at BismarckBobcats.com.
Bobcat Hockey would like to thank all of its sponsors, partners, game-night volunteers, billets, staff, coaches and especially players for helping make the Bobcats a part of the fabric of Bismarck/Mandan for 20 years!
