Flash Forward: Signee Teague a Familiar Prospect
Welcome to Flash Forward, a recurring feature this offseason where you will learn all about Bobcat newcomers for 2015-16. Today we start with tender signee Tyse Teague.
BISMARCK, ND – When a rookie scores his first goal in the North American Hockey League, he is given the puck as a keepsake. Four-odd months before the 2015-16 season begins, incoming Bismarck Bobcats defenseman Tyse Teague already has that puck on his mantle.
Joining the Cats as an affiliate player from the Anaheim Junior Ducks at the end of the 2014-15 regular season, Teague scored with 30 seconds remaining in his junior debut on March 27: firing home a one-timer to put a cap on the Bobcats’ 6-1 win over the Minot Minotauros.
“Tyse has already showed us that he has a bright future in this league,” hailed Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “He adjusted well to the higher level of play and even the intensity of a major rivalry [with the Tauros].”
Playing with the Anaheim 18-and-under team last season in the NAPHL, the Murrieta, Calif., native contributed six goals and 15 assists as the Jr. Ducks went 19-5-0 to finish second in the 18U division.
“Our scouting staff identified Tyse early in the [2014-15] season because of his size and physical play,” added Sedevie on the 6’2” blueliner. “He’s also got a great shot, but his best trait is his ability to defend the house—something we’ve been missing for a couple of years.”
Before playing for Anaheim last season, Teague played alongside current Bobcats Jared Pike and Cole Souto with the Los Angeles Junior Kings in 2013-14.
As a tendered player, Teague is on the Bobcats’ 30-man protected list heading into the 2015 NAHL Entry Draft on June 9.
The Cats’ busy offseason kicks into high gear on May 29 as Pre-Draft Tryouts begin in Prior Lake, Minn., and continue a week later in Denver, Colo.
