BISMARCK, ND – The Bismarck Bobcats’ seven-game home stand rolls on this weekend when they host the Brookings Blizzard for a two-game series, starting Friday at the VFW Sports Center.
It will be Brookings’ third trip of the year to the capital region, where the Blizzard are 2-0-0 so far in 2015-16.
“Right now, our record on the road is really strong at 13-4-0 but we haven’t been getting the job done quite as well in our own building,” stated Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, whose team improved to 9-5-1 at home Wednesday. “This is the time of year where the rubber hits the road, and if we want to be a playoff team we need to start taking care of business here at ‘the VFW.’”
Brookings enters the weekend having taken points in five of their last seven games to amass a five-point lead on fifth-place Aberdeen for the Central Division’s final playoff spot.
Winger Griff Jeszka has the hot hand for Brookings, scoring three goals and adding seven assists in his last nine games to claim the team lead in goals (11) and move into second on the Blizzard in both assists (18) and overall scoring (29).
Netminder Josh Kuemichel has posted both Brookings wins at the VFW Sports Center and is 2-1-0 on the year against the Bobcats with a 2.93 GAA and a .916 SV%—including a 46-save performance on November 25.
For the Bobcats, Aaron Herdt leads the charge offensively with 14 goals and 19 assists—ranking second in points among Central Division skaters behind Austin’s Gilbert Gabor (36).
In net, Hunter Shepard is now 13-1-0 in his last 16 starts to move into fifth league-wide with a 2.11 GAA. His .921 save percentage is 10th in the NAHL.
