BISMARCK, ND – Entering the weekend just two points out of first place in the tightly packed Central Division, the Bismarck Bobcats will start off a seven-game home stand when the Aberdeen Wings come to the VFW Sports Center Saturday.
The two teams played a home-and-home series last weekend, with the Bobcats taking a 5-1 decision at home before rallying to claim Saturday’s weekend finale 3-2 in overtime.
Thanks to a 4-0 win Friday over Brookings, the Wings are now 4-3-2 in their last nine games and have pulled within four points of the Blizzard for a playoff spot in the Central.
Over the last three games, Aberdeen’s power play has come alive: scoring four goals in that span to improve to 20.2% on the season, becoming one of eight teams in the NAHL with a power play operating above twenty percent.
Following a Friday off, the Cats sit two points back of first-place Austin with between one and four games in hand on the rest of the division.
Second-year center Aaron Herdt has led the Bobcat charge of late, providing three goals—including the game-tying and game-winning goals last Saturday at Odde Ice Center—and four assists in the last five games to claim the team scoring lead with 31 points (13g, 18a).
Goaltender Hunter Shepard has helped the Cats climb into a second-place tie, rattling off an 11-1-0 record in his last 14 starts en route to the seventh-lowest GAA in the league at 2.16.
Tickets are now on sale for Saturday’s rivalry tilt: fans can buy and print tickets 24 hours a day at BismarckBobcats.com, by clicking “Shop Now” on the team Facebook page or by calling 222-3300.
