BISMARCK, ND–Four Bismarck Bobcats wrapped up a solid presence at the NAHL’s Top Prospects Tournament today in Troy, Michigan.
Stanislav Dzakhov (Moscow, Russia), Huba Sekesi (Munich, Germany), Filip Starzynski (Warsaw, Poland), and Aaron Nelson represented the Bobcats for Team Central Division, which finished 2-0 in the tournament held yesterday and this afternoon.
Sekesi scored the eventual game-winning goal in Central’s 4-1 win over Team Midwest Division Monday, with Dzakhov earning an assist on the marker. Dzakhov then scored the first goal for Central in Tuesday’s Team South Division, a goal assisted by Starzynski.
Nelson was sparkling both days. He played a half of each game, and finished 1-0, stopping 11 shots and earning the win against Midwest Monday. He stopped 12 shots and left the game with a 2-0 lead, but earned no decision, against South Tuesday.
The NAHL Top Prospects Tournament is a showcase for NAHL players without a commitment to a college or university. The event is attended by an estimated 200 college and professional hockey scouts.
Nelson has made a commitment to Minnesota State University-Mankato, but committed after the rosters for the tournament had already been finalized. As a goalie, the roster spot was difficult to replace, and Nelson was allowed to play.
Bismarck’s players in the tournament will return to their team this week, as the Bobcats prepare for Brookings in a home-and-home scenario, starting on the road this Friday. Saturday’s game will be in Bismarck. Tickets are still available at 222-3300 or online at www.bismarckbobcats.com.
