BISMARCK, ND–Bobcats goalie, and Bismarck native Aaron Nelson has claimed this week’s Easton NAHL Central Division Star of the Week award.
Nelson earned two wins between the pipes for the Bobcats last weekend, securing the Bobcats sole possession of second place in the Central Division standings with two wins over the Aberdeen Wings.
Facing the Wings in a home-and-home series, Nelson stopped 65 of 69 shots in wins of 4-3 at Aberdeen Friday and at the VFW Sports Center in Bismarck Saturday. Nelson stoned Wings’ forward Jonathon Grebosky in the sixth round of shootout hockey to lock up the Bobcat’s home win Saturday.
Nelson has minded the net in all eight Bobcats’ games this season, compiling a 6-2 record with a 2.23 GAA and a 91.6% saves percentage. "When you build your team each season, you start from the net out and Aaron was that guy for us this season," said Bobcats head coach Layne Sedevie. "We feel he is an elite goaltender at this level and one of the best in the NAHL."
Bobcats forward Filip Starzynski (Warsaw, Poland) was an honorable mention for the award. He recorded two goals and an assist in the series with the Wings, including the lone Bobcat tally in regulation Saturday night. Starzynski is tied for second in the NAHL in goals scored, with seven, and tied for fourth in overall scoring with 14 points.
The Bobcats travel to Brookings to face the Blizzard on Friday night in the lone game of the weekend. They return home Saturday, October 19th. Tickets are still available by calling the Bismarck Bobcats ticket office at 222-3300.
