BISMARCK, ND – Even though the Bismarck Bobcats are locked in a heated playoff chase in the wide-open Central Division, they will take time out for the second straight year to lend a hand—and their heads—to the fight against childhood cancer with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
With the Austin Bruins in town for a 7:15 PM showdown at the VFW Sports Center, the Bobcats—in conjunction with Basin Electric Power Cooperative—will be hosting their second annual St. Baldrick’s Game.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation centers around volunteers earning pledges to shave their heads—usually on St. Patrick’s Day—in the name of cancer research. In the spirit of the event, numerous Bobcat players, coaches and staffers will be getting their heads shaved during intermission at the Bobcats-Bruins game.
“One of the primary goals of Bobcat Hockey from day one has been to become as active as possible in the Bismarck-Mandan community and make a difference whenever we can,” said Bobcats team owner Thom Brigl, who had his head shaved as part of 2010’s inaugural St. Baldrick’s Game. “We couldn’t be happier to partner with Basin Electric and St. Baldrick’s again this year. It’s a great cause, a great event and a great time and we can’t wait to do it again [Friday].”
In addition to players and coaches gaining the chrome-dome look, the Bobcats will be wearing special edition St. Baldrick’s white and green jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the foundation—the world’s fastest-growing volunteer-driven fundraising organization benefiting childhood cancer research. Fans will be able to bid on the one-night-only jerseys in a live following Friday’s game.
The team will also have green beer on sale during the game as part of the event.
Certain Bobcats players will be joining the festivities at Basin Electric on St. Patrick’s Day, as well. Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s Day event has already raised over $54,000 for 2011, still over a week before the event.
Fans interested in making separate donations to this year’s St. Baldrick’s Day event can find more information online at http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/eventid/770/eventyear/2011 .
