Bobcats Deal for Tweten, Altounian on Eve of Draft
BISMARCK, ND – For the second consecutive year, the Bismarck Bobcats have executed a trade with the Minnesota Magicians one day in advance of the 2017 NAHL Entry Draft, acquiring forwards Tanner Tweten and Tommy Altounian in exchange for future considerations.
Tweten, a native of East Grand Forks, Minn., posted 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists in 50 appearances for the Magicians in his second NAHL season.
“Tanner is a guy we’ve been after ever since he played at East Grand Forks High: he’s big, he can skate, he can shoot well and he adds a veteran look that—when combined with the guys we’ve got coming back—is huge for us,” explained Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “We’re pumped to have him on our team.”
In his first NAHL campaign, 1999-born forward Altounian submitted four goals and eight assists in 38 games with Minnesota.
“Tommy is a big guy who can add a physical, veteran element to our team’s game,” added Bobcats assistant coach and director of player personnel Garrett Roth. “He works hard and will add a good presence to our lineup. He’s another guy we were after [in 2016], so we’re pleased to be able to bring him in.”
One day prior to the 2016 NAHL Draft, the Bobcats pulled off a trade with the Magicians to bring in goalie Will Ulrich—now committed to play Division I college hockey at Air Force.
In Tuesday’s Draft, the Bobcats will have six selections to add to their 24 returning and tendered players to fill out their 30-man protected list. They will draft sixth overall.
