The Bismarck Bobcats are proud to announce that former Bobcat John Gormley has signed a two-year, two-way contract with the San Jose Barracuda (AHL).
Gormley was an alternate captain in the 2020-21 season and appeared in 55 games for the Bobcats. In those contests, the blueliner notched 3 goals and added on 6 assists for a total of 9 points. Gormley then went on to play D1 hockey at Long Island University.
Voice of the Bobcats, Brandon Luisi, caught up with Gormley to discuss what it was like to sign that deal. “It is everything you dream of when you’re a kid. Every kid wants to play professional hockey and it really is a dream come true. I’m so grateful for my time in Bismarck and the way it helped me reach the next level,” Gormley said.
Gormley has suited up in 6 contests with the Wichita Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, and in one game with the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks. He mentioned what it was like to suit up in his first pro game and take all the emotions in. “It absolutely felt surreal. I’ve been waiting and working for this day to come and it was a fantastic feeling hitting the ice for the first time. There is a good group of guys here that made it easy for me too. I miss skating at the VFW, but I’m very happy to have taken the next step,” Gormley mentioned.
Gormley’s contract will run through the 2025-26 season.
