BISMARCK, N.D.–The North American Hockey League named Michael Neumeier its defenseman of the month for September. The Bobcats’ veteran took home the honor in a leaguewide nomination process.
The 19-year-old from Kerrobert, Sask. has impressed on both sides of the puck so far. His ten points in seven September games led the league, including five points on the power play. Neumeier’s six-point weekend against the Aberdeen Wings earned him central division star of the week honors. His defensive abilities and stickwork have also drawn praise from the Bobcats’ coaching staff.
“It is no surprise,” head coach Layne Sedevie said. “I think you can say he is arguably the best defenseman in the league … He hit his stride in the second half when we did last year and was a huge part of that run.
No Bobcat won a player of the month award last season. Sedevie has given Neumeier the same praise as Jonathan Ziskie a season ago.
“Really just his creativity, the way his mind processes the game,” Sedevie said. “His stick skills combined with it … to me, he is an elite defenseman.”
The Bismarck Bobcats are home this weekend for a series against the St. Cloud Norsemen. Game times are at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, October 7 and Saturday, October 8. Tickets are on sale now at www.bismarckbobcats.com and on the Bismarck Bobcats mobile app.
