Bobcats Add Blueliner Malinski from USHL Cedar Rapids
BISMARCK, ND – With an open roster spot just over half way through the 2017-18 regular season, the Bismarck Bobcats have acquired defenseman Sam Malinski from the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL.
“Sam is a great skating defenseman with a high level of skill who will be a great addition on the back end for us,” lauded Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie. “Our scouting staff has been following Sam since his days at Lakeville South [High School] so we are excited to be able to bring him in.”
A 2017 tender signee with the Bobcats before starting the season with the Riders, Malinski had two goals and an assist in 18 games with Cedar Rapids this year. The 5-foot-11 defender put up 27 points (5g, 22a) in 24 games with the Lakeville [Minn.] South Cougars in 2016-17.
The Bobcats do not need to make an additional move to make room for Malinski on the roster as December departures by forwards Jared Resseguie and Ty Enns left the Bobcats at 22 players—out of a maximum of 23—on their active roster coming into the new year.
On the ice, the Bobcats will open 2018 on Saturday night with a 7:15pm home clash with the Brookings Blizzard at the VFW Sports Center.
