ST. CLOUD, MINN.–The Bismarck Bobcats brought themselves back into the win column with a 3-1 victory in St. Cloud on Saturday.
In a game that featured four total goals, none of which were scored with even numbers on the ice, the Bobcats’ special teams stepped up on the road. Evan Hunter and Patrick Johnson came through with power play goals on back-to-back opportunities in the first period, creating a 2-0 lead the team would not surrender.
Adam Pietila iced the win with an empty net goal in the last minute of the third. Jeremiah Konkel scored the Norsemen’s only goal.
The Bobcats showed a noticeable improvement from week-to-week in this series. The team built on a tough-luck 5-3 loss on Friday with a Saturday road win. A power play which had gone cold snapped out of the funk with a 3-for-9 series.
Julian Beaumont, Drew Holt, and Carter Krenke scored on Friday night despite the loss. Krenke, who signed a tender agreement on November 1, tallied in his first career game as a Bobcat.
The team made a trade before the series, trading C.J. Kier and Sam Blanton to El Paso for goaltender Hunter Garvey. Garvey, who joined the Bobcats on Thursday night, started on Saturday and earned the win with an impressive 32-for-33 performance.
After two games in St. Cloud, the Norsemen come to Bismarck for a two-game series this weekend. Friday, November 11 is Military Appreciation Night, with game-worn jerseys to be auctioned off after the contest.
