Five-Point Weekend Nets Demel League Honors

FRISCO, TX – With a goal and four assists to help the Bismarck Bobcats start December with a pair of wins, blueliner Patrik Demel was named the North American Hockey League’s Central Division Star of the Week Monday.

Demel contributed all five of his points on the weekend while the Cats were on the power play, pacing the team’s 6-for-12 weekend on the man advantage.

“Our power play is starting to hit its stride and Patrik was a big reason for that this weekend,” credited Bobcats head coach and general manager Layne Sedevie, whose team is 14-for-42 on the ‘PP’ over the last eight games. “He sees the ice very well and has a knack for putting himself in the right place to make plays.”

Since the calendar turned over to November, Demel has produced at a point-per-game clip: posting a goal and nine assists in ten appearances since November 6.

“Once Patrik got used to the level of play in the NAHL, you could see his confidence grow and his game improve right along with it,” added Sedevie, who acquired the native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, at the outset of the 2015 NAHL Showcase.

He is now the fourth Bobcat to earn Star of the Week distinction, joining Harrison Aide, Nick Alexander and Willie Brown.

Goaltender Hunter Shepard also got in on the weekly award fun, picking up an honorable mention for Star of the Week after a 2-0-0 showing with 64 saves and his first career assist.

The Bobcats will continue their four-game road swing Friday when they pay a visit to the Odde Ice Center to face the rival Aberdeen Wings at 7:15pm.

Friday’s installment of the Titan Machinery Dakota Cup will be broadcast live locally on SuperTalk 1270, KLXX-AM, the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, and worldwide online at NAHL.FASTHockey.com—the official web television partner of the North American Hockey League—with pregame coverage starting at 6:45pm.
