BLAINE, MN – The Bismarck Bobcats look to build on a strong start to the 2016-17 season when they open NAHL Showcase play Wednesday at the Schwan Super Rink against the Lone Star Brahmas of the South Division.
It is the first-ever meeting between the Bobcats and the Brahmas, who relocated to North Richland Hills, Tex., in 2013.
“Lone Star has built up a strong program in just a few years under [head coach] Dan Wildfong, so we know they’ll be well-coached and tough to play against,” surmised Bobcats assistant coach Garrett Roth, “but our focus is more on our players getting comfortable in our systems than making big adjustments to what the Brahmas will be doing.”
Both sides are coming off convincing victories in their season openers on Saturday, where the Bobcats cruised to a 7-2 home win over Aberdeen while Lone Star routed Amarillo 7-1 on the road.
Brahmas forwards Drake Glover and Troy York led Lone Star’s relentless assault at the Amarillo Civic Center, each contributing a hat trick—with Glover earning the South Division Second Star of the Week—while Austin Kramer provided four assists.
Six different scorers lit the lamp for the Bobcats Saturday, with Parker Mismash representing the Cats’ only multi-goal submission, while Jordan Fralich and Tobias Fladeby each chipped in three helpers to earn the Central’s First and Second Star of the Week awards, respectively.
Wednesday’s first-ever meeting between the Bobcats and Brahmas will be broadcast locally on the radio home of Bobcat Hockey, Super Talk 1270 AM, and worldwide on FASTHockey.com–the web television partner of the North American Hockey League–with pregame coverage starting at 4:45pm.
